I Visited The Most Remote Village In Mainland Britain
I visited the most remote village in mainland Britain. Located on a peninsula in the Scottish Highlands, the village of Inverie on the Knoydart Peninsula is known for its isolation.
There are no roads connecting Inverie to the rest of Scotland. The only way to reach this village is by hiking approximately 15 miles through the last wilderness of Britain or by taking a boat across 7 miles of sea. In the last video, I shared my experience of hiking in Knoydart to reach Inverie, one of the UK's most remote villages.
In this video, I explore this remote Scottish village which is community-owned by the Knoydart Foundation. I end my time in Inverie by visiting the Old Forge Pub, the most remote pub in the UK!

Hiking Alone Through Scotland’s Last Wilderness
Переглядів 51 тис.14 днів тому
Knoydart, sometimes known as Scotland's last wilderness, is a 55,000-acre peninsula located between Loch Nevis (which means heaven, in some Gaelic translations) and Loch Hourn (which means hell). It’s one of mainland Britain's most remote areas and is the only sizeable area in Britain that remains inaccessible to vehicles. It’s accessible only by foot or boat. Over the next two days, I’ll be hi...

We used to deliver to the cafe at the end of the road, absolutely hated that last mile or so down the hill. funnily enough it was in a Mercedes Sprinter. Met a van with a trailer going down in the dark once so had to reverse up the hill looking for a passing place as they become a bit thin on the ground towards the end, that wasn't fun lol.

There are two things we will always fight for: our own people and our land. That brief story of Knoydart very well sums it up and it might look like a "small fight" in the grand scheme of things but it also sums up what being human is and our fighting spirit. I live in a very far away country but I hope someday I can visit this land.

I did a Land's End to John O'Groats bike ride some years ago (I think around 2018 or so). I did it in two parts, and the 2nd part I started in Lancaster and went up the West Coast of Scotland. I remember biking up the hill to Lochranza (where I stayed at an inn there), and visiting the distillery. Such a beautiful island, really well set-up for visitors. I hope to go back some day to see more! Did you see any otters? I saw an "Otter Crossing" sign along the road as I biked from the ferry terminal.

I remember when we were on that same ferry around 9 years ago. The seasickness that only I experienced... The expensive meals that I couldn't eat anyways... The humming of the engine, all night long aside the sound of people who partied too hard and lost their beverages in a very soundful way... But the wet room was rocking. You could have a hot shower while taking a poop and vomit at the same time. Also feeding some whales with what was left of any meal I had left from before arrival at ijmuiden was so unreal. The sight of the North sea and the many lights of oil rigs and ships at night while I lost all water through my mouth was fantastic... This was a prelude to being in a downtrotten little town in the Newcastle area we were visiting one week at the house of a person I known in times glhe wasn't an ...bad person. So basically being seasick was way more comfortable than being on land for a whole week
